Unfortunately I don't remember any good film with hussars. But good to know that there are people on the world who have heard of this greatest and most beautiful cavalry in history. Even in wikipedia under "cavalry" there is just one short sentence, which is sad, considering that they haven't been beaten in 125 years of their history and Swedish king fighting against them said "if I had those hussars, in a couple of weeks I would conquer Constantinopol". They had very spectacular victories like for example battle of Hodow in 1694, where 400 of them have resisted attack of 40000 (sic!) Tartars, forcing them to reatreat.
Yeah the Polish Hussars definitely were at the top when it comes to cavalry. Eastern Cataphracts were pretty decent too, and the french always had good cavalry. 1612 is a good movie featuring Polish Hussars, it is in Russian and Polish though.
No, I'm sorry to say it, but 1612 is rubbish and full of lies and stupidity (like the charge of hussars to the gate, something that never happened and would never happen). But Russians were always jealous about hussars and the fact that hussars have beaten them many times. They even copied them and formed their own hussar team, but it was very rubbish (for example when they were going out of the city, they forgot that they have to put down lances because they are too long, so they broke them they didn't know as well that lances of hussars are empty inside to reduce the weight, so they were unable to recreate the original lenghts of even 6m). So, don't expect facts and truth about Russians biggest enemies from Russian movie.
I only recently learned about these guys and I was shocked at how much good art featuring them is on DA. This is not one of them, because it is exceptional, rather than simply good. I like the different helmet designs and that you payed attention to the amount of armor and weapon detail a lot of the hussars enjoyed. The full drawing of the mounted hussar along with the sword and helmet focuses makes this a really nice piece of art!
